TODAY IS WORLD WATER DAY

" We shall not finally defeat AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, or any of the other infectious diseases that plague the developing world until we have also won the battle for safe drinking-water, sanitation and health care - Kofi Annan.
As we join the rest of the world in marking the day we should note that: half of the world's population lives in urban areas. In the coming decades, urbanization is expected to increase at an alarming rate in developing countries. Coping with the growing needs of water and sanitation services within cities is one of the most pressing issues of this new century. Among the consequences of this urban influx is the growing demand for water and sanitation services. The gap is continuously widening between the demand for and the supply of these services.
In Lagos now our challenges is not only to meet the demand of the growing population but also to addressed the: exploitation of the groundwater, reduce pollution, protect existing water facilities ect.
Water advocacy is one of the major way of addressing water related issues. Help to protect our water. Don’t dump refuse and other material into water bodies, report water leakages and use water wisely.
