“The only thing necessary for the
triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Before you come to my wall and talk about my sponsored post, let me
educate you about why Lagosians must walk for peace. I graduated from Lagos
State University (LASU) in the period I don’t hope any student witnesses in
this country again. In the early 90’s, LASU witnessed student activism, cultism
and the likes. The key actors in those events who played students activist are
now ‘big boys’ who set up NGOs in different works of life. I see some of
them on television shows talking against violence, election malpractice and
many others.
However, back in the university when some of us preached peace they took
the path of violence. One clear incidence I will never forget, and I hope they
all seek forgiveness is the stripping of a woman old enough to be our mother in
the name of fighting for students’ rights. Today, some are in Politics, Business,
Education and even Heads of Organisations and are preaching peace forgetting
you can only sow what you reap. Without trying to be judgemental, most of those who took the part of
violence then are not Lagos indigenes. Today, they ride on the fight for
democracy, same people who committed to do evil in their university days but are
now enjoying peaceful lives. They are advocates of good behaviour and good
manners.
For most of us then,we took
the back seat and decided not to join the fight whilst calling for peaceful
resolution. We sat back and allowed these idiots who want to ride on student
union activism to become popular or do their task master game plan destroy our
lives. The students stole students’
union funds, used student union buses for businesses without remitting money to
student union account, collected money from the political class and used LASU’s
name to fight for personal gains. Now, we have them as Activists, Mega Party
Conveners, some of them are even calling for election reforms meanwhile these
people had disrupted peaceful elections when in university. They always want to
win by all means! Oneis a convener of anti-violence however, he joined others
in beating both academic and non- academic staff in his youth days.
In the early 90’s Lagos State University ranked
among the best in Law, Science, humanities etc however their violent acts turned
the school to a centre of violence. The University was named “militant but
reasonable.” Their acts made us spend two years at home. Now they come and
start to preach peace. It is for these reasons we cannot allow them. We must
all stand for peace in Lagos, because those who are in the path of violence now
will later come and preach peace after gaining popularity with violence.
Like the saying, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing.”we the good people of Lagos
State especially the youth must walk for peace, because those who chose the
part of violence now will later come and preach peace. They will be the ones
romancing the big and the mighty, while those who are peaceful remain in the
background.
Let’s put a stop to those who wish to use violence to gain popularity at
the expense of people life.
I WILL WALK FOR PEACE IN LAGOS. I WILL WALK
WITH MR. GOVERNOR.
A good reminiscence my brother.
